Alva is a thriving regional center for commerce and education and serves as the primary hub of the Mississippian Lime play, a mainstay of Oklahoma’s energy boom. Northwestern Oklahoma State University is a state regional university serving more than 2,200 students and is the region’s center for education, the arts, athletics and economic development. Northwestern offers more than 40 undergraduate programs with nationally recognized programs in education, business, nursing, science, music and agriculture. U.S. News and World Report have listed Northwestern as the state’s top-ranked public regional university for three consecutive years and has given the institution national recognition in affordability.

Northwest Technology Center has many outstanding daytime career programs including—Auto Collision Technology, Automotive Technology, Biomedical Sciences, Computers and Business Technology, Construction, Culinary, Digital Design, Health Careers Certification, Practical Nursing and Welding.


Alva Regional Airport

The Alva Regional Airport, owned by the City of Alva, serves AIva and Woods County. The longest of its multiple run­ways has pavement extending 5,000 feet. The elevation is 1,474 feet.

Arts & Entertainment

Built in 1929, the Rialto Theatre shows first run movies on its three screens.The ACT 1 Theatre showcases talent of the Alva community, Northwestern Oklahoma State University, and Alva public schools.Each year, the Northwestern Okla­homa Concert Series offers Alva and the surrounding communities’ six different musical and theatrical productions from October through April.

Enjoying the history of Woods County in an outdoor setting by visit­ing 24 murals by artists from all over the United States. The murals were commis­sioned by the Alva Mural Society.

The Graceful Arts Gallery and Stu­dios is located at 523 Barnes Street in the downtown Arts and Shopping District in Alva. The gallery hosts professional arts and humanities exhibits that rotate to monthly, and in the studio space we offer year-round arts classes in a variety of genres. Events and Festivals

The Nescatunga Arts Festival, held each year during the first weekend in June, brings artists and crafters from a four-state area to display and sell their creations. The festival also provides exciting entertainment and food.

Northwestern Oklahoma State University hosts a Homecoming Parade at 10 a.m. on Saturday of homecoming weekend. The NWOSU Homecoming Association invites bands to participate in this parade
and awards first and second place trophies in six classes of competition, as well as offering an open class for bands not interested in competing.
